Pair the prix fixe menus with the runway shows, catch the aspens at peak color, drive home Sunday with a full stomach and a camera roll. That version of the story is fine if you're coming in from Denver for the weekend. If you already live here, it misses the point entirely.
Aspen Restaurant Week Autumn runs September 21 through 27, the first time the Aspen Chamber Resort Association has staged a fall edition of the event. More than two dozen restaurants are offering prix fixe menus at $45, $75 or $95, and the list reads like a cross-section of the whole town: Ellina, Bear Den Aspen, PARC Aspen, BOSQ, Angelo's, Monarch Steakhouse, The Wild Fig, Aosta, Yuki, Matsuhisa, Betula Aspen, Duemani, Acquolina, Jimoto, Stranahan's Whiskey Lodge, Mawa's Kitchen, Catch Steak, Jing, W Aspen's 39 Degrees, Meat & Cheese, Las Montañas, Lola 41, West End Social, French Alpine Bistro, Kenichi and Golden Horn.
That much is public knowledge by now. What the getaway framing leaves out is what this week is actually functioning as for the people who live here year round: a last chance to eat at a real chunk of this list before it goes dark for the shoulder season.
What the week is actually for
ACRA built this event to solve a specific problem. Summer ends, the ski crowd hasn't arrived, and restaurants that depend on both need a reason to pull locals back in before the calendar turns quiet. Sarah Reynolds Lasser, ACRA's Vice President of Business Development, said the goal was to give residents "a fresh reason to discover restaurants they have not yet had the chance to try." The owners of Bosq, Chef Barclay and Molly Dodge, put it more plainly when the event was announced, saying they wanted to welcome back "locals who maybe haven't been in or haven't been in for a while."
That framing matters. This isn't a tourist sampler. It's an invitation aimed squarely at the people who already have these restaurants in their regular rotation, or who meant to try one and never got around to it.
Two runway nights, one long drive from downtown
The visitor coverage treats the overlap with Aspen Fashion Week as a bonus, four extra days of energy layered on top of Restaurant Week's final stretch. Fashion Week runs September 24 through 27, with the actual runway shows compressed into two nights: the LOCAL show on Friday, September 25, and the REGIONAL show on Saturday, September 26, both at the Doerr-Hosier Center at Aspen Meadows on Meadows Road.
That's worth sitting with for a second, because it's a real change from last year. Aspen Fashion Week's inaugural run in August 2025 spread across four days at the Walter Paepcke Memorial Building's East Lawn, also on the Aspen Meadows campus. A year in, the event has already compressed down to two ticketed runway nights bracketed by pop-ups and parties. That's not a knock on the event. It's useful information if you're deciding how much of your week to give it.
For a visitor staying at a hotel near the mall, the drive up to Meadows Road barely registers. For a resident trying to close out a Restaurant Week dinner downtown and make an 8:30 p.m. seating at Doerr-Hosier, it's a real commute on top of a full evening, not a stroll between two doors on the same block. The list that matters more than the menu
Here's the part the visitor sites have no reason to mention, because they won't be back until ski season anyway. Last fall, Duemani closed for its annual break on September 28 and didn't reopen until December 3. Ellina closed October 4 and stayed shuttered until December 6. Betula Aspen and BOSQ both went dark October 12 through November 25. Angelo's closed October 13 through December 4. French Alpine Bistro ran the same October 13 window through November 26. Aosta closed October 26 through November 11, Acquolina from October 25 through November 28, and Kenichi from October 26 through November 12. Bear Den Aspen typically takes its own break somewhere in November, though the exact dates move year to year. Every one of those closures either started during or landed within a week or two of where this year's Restaurant Week falls on the calendar.
That's ten restaurants, more than a third of this week's lineup, that historically use late September through late November as their off-season pause. If this year's closures land anywhere near last year's dates, and shoulder-season timing in this town tends to repeat itself, the restaurants worth prioritizing this week aren't necessarily the ones with the splashiest $95 menu. They're the ones about to disappear for six to nine weeks.
A few names on the list tend to stay open straight through the shoulder season instead. Matsuhisa and Las Montañas have historically run without an off-season closure, so if your calendar is tight this week, those are the lower-stakes bookings. Save the ones with a track record of going quiet in October for the nights you can actually get a reservation.
What this actually changes about how you book this week
If you treat Restaurant Week as a menu of options to get through eventually, you'll end up eating at whichever place still has a table open come November, and some of these kitchens simply won't be there. The better approach for a resident is closer to triage: cross-reference tonight's plans against which restaurants are likely heading into their annual break first, and let that decide the order, not the discount tier.
